But it’s just as well. We got the chance to review films like Da 5 Bloods, The King of Staten Island, and Shirley before all the madness erupted today on the trades. Because it’s now official - the Oscars have moved their date to April 25th from February 28th, and the latter is now the end of the eligibility for the film year of 2020. What are all the other key dates to look out for now? Do all the other awards shows & film festivals push back as well? Can they? What does this move do to the film year of 2020? We break it all down in this Oscar Race Checkpoint episode. The Academy also enacted initiatives towards diversity, inclusion, and equality, and we lay out how these rule changes could impact Oscar Races in our future and how the calendar shift may have averted a disaster in our present. They elected new governors & made a few other big changes to their streaming service and Best Picture category. Finally, the film release calendar changed like crazy over the past few weeks and will likely continue to change.
