Published: July 25, 2019, 4 a.m.

We complete our 3 Part Mid-Year Oscars Report by overviewing 7 more categories including Best Picture, Director, Original Song, International Feature, VFX, Editing, and Production Design. And once more, there are debates over front runners, likely noms, & wildcards. How the Midyear Oscars Report Works - Top of Show Structure of Category Breakdowns - 1:34 Production Design Category - 2:13 Visual Effects Category - 12:50 Original Song Category - 20:25 Film Editing Category - 27:41 International Feature Category - 36:00 Best Director Category - 42:25 Best Picture Category - 54:23 Your Homework/Our Socials - 1:03:35 What’s Next From MMO/Words of Wisdom - 1:04:49 Our Mid-Year Oscars Report finishes with our in-depth look at 7 more categories. You can listen to these 3 episodes in order or out of order. But in any case, you’ll get an overview of 21 categories as we’ve only ignored the shorts at this stage (though we review all shorts we do see on MMO Weekly’s FYI). We begin with a larger look at the race itself by discussing all the contenders & honorable mentions before we debate the front runners, likely nominations, and wildcards in these categories. We also conclude with an overall discussion about front runners during this episode and how they’re normally overthrown as awards season continues. Are these front runners strong enough to go the distance? Or do we think something or somebody else will overtake them? But of course, we had to save the biggest category for last. Best Picture seems like a wide open race at this juncture, as do most of the races for the record. Though it’s a lot of fun to debate & discuss & do our overview thing here. If you enjoyed these discussions, make sure you’re listening to our MMO Weekly variety shows. Those have played on Mondays or Tuesdays, hell, even some Saturdays and Sundays in our back catalog, and there, we have frequent Oscar Race Updates previewing & reviewing news about film festivals, key casting calls, and the developments at the Academy. And if you didn’t hear our recent announcement, we’ll be spinning off our Oscar Race Update into its own weekly show! So awards season is heating up with releases like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Farewell, and The Kitchen, all of which, we plan to review in the coming weeks as Oscar Sprint Profiles to add to that playlist we update throughout the movie-going year. But if you just want the race chatter, then we hope you’ll tune into our weekly Oscar Race Update show coming soon. Speaking of OUATIH, we’ve just completed our Tarantino Series Re-Watch with reviews of The Hateful Eight & Django Unchained dropping this past week. We’ve reviewed all of Quentin’s canonical works, including a two part study on Pulp Fiction and a preview episode where we discuss our Top 5 Questions we need Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to answer leading into our review of it. We’ve also reviewed every single Pixar Film in this Oscar Off-Season, with series on the MCU, Mission Impossibles, Halloweens, Conjuring Universe, Christmas movies, & Best Original Song retrospectives in our off-seasons past. So we hope there are playlists for every movie watching taste in our back catalog whether we’re in awards season or not. As always, we want to know your takes.
