The animated feature category announced the 32 films under consideration for Academy voters, and the Critics Choice Documentary Awards announced their nominations. So we opened the show with long looks at those two categories. AMC announced a “new” streaming service, where we weigh the pros & cons. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been banned from Chinese theaters, Sony wants to recut the film, but Tarantino won’t do it. Of course, we cannot help but dive into a large Quentin convo here. Then we canvas some film festival updates from New York, London, Miami, 919, and AFI. We’re more than happy to profile films we’ve yet to preview, and Mike 1 offers a plea to you, our movie loving audience. Bombshell earns rave reviews, and both Margot Robbie & Charlize Theron enter the race after it’s LA premiere. Then we analyze Bombshell’s new trailer, as well as those for the emotional roller coaster of Marriage Story, the legal nightmare of The Report, a cuteness overload in Frozen II, & the intentionally awkward in Beanpole.
