We saw the movie 3 times apiece, watched Manson documentaries, researched all of the historical facts & fictions, and we scoured the web of every review we could get. Oh, and we reviewed each Tarantino film beforehand in a 10 part series with a bonus OUATIH preview episode thrown in for good measure. So we thank you for listening so damned much, and we hope this two part review, deep dive is well worth your wait. Here’s part 1! This episode is a mixture of one of our normal Oscar Sprint Profiles and a Tarantino Series entry, meaning we incorporate segments of both of those formats. In OSP’s, we start off full production profile that takes you behind the scenes with making of stories & breaks down all of the numbers & pre-production facts you oughtta know. Then we do non-spoiler reviews of the production values like cinematography, production design, costumes, editing, etc. We also discuss the performances and the script and build up toward our Oscar projections for all the categories. As for the unique format akin to our Tarantino series, we include our first watch stories, what made Quentin dance - a segment to celebrate the soundtrack, and we also break down most of the homages QT makes to older films and to some true to life history. Is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood more Oscar-y than other Tarantino films? How many nominations do we think it’ll take home come awards season? And could it take home some of the major prizes like Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay, or one of the Supporting trophies? We break all that down & MORE! Stay tuned for Part II where we’ll break down the plot in extreme detail. Could Tarantino have made the movie a little shorter? Or are we happy to hang out with these characters as long as possible? Does the nihilism argument prevail? Or will we land upon a major theme for what could be his magnum opus? And if that’s not enough of a selling point, we’ll do the rest of our Tarantino Series segments as well. You don’t wanna miss the next episode. As always, we want to know your thoughts.
