This episode is filled with potential summer blockbusters and possible Oscar contenders, and we identify what films are tracking as potential box office favorites and/or critical darlings. We also add a 5 star scale for our excitement levels heading into each upcoming release. What films should we see? What films are you excited about? Listen in to find out! July starts off with another Purge movie, showcases the 20th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Ant Man and the Wasp, and enters sci-fi comedy Sorry to Bother You into the Oscar discussion. Then we discuss the loaded field for documentary films as we discuss whether or not we’re excited about Whitney, the latest doc about the late great Whitney Houston. The next few weeks feature probable box office gold with The Equalizer 2 and Mama Mia Here We Go Again. Then it’s time for Mission Impossible: Fallout and Disney’s Christopher Robin. Oscar alarm bells sound for Sundance favorites Searching and The Miseducation of Cameron Post, and we also debate our excitement levels for guiltier pleasures like Skyscraper and Unfriended: Dark Web. August kicks into high gear with BlacKkKlansman, the latest Cannes Film Festival award winner from renowned director, Spike Lee. The Meg pushes our patience for the killer shark genre, and A.X.L., Alpha, and Dog Days leave us wanting for better dog movies. The Happytime Murders and Slender Man sound some different kind of alarm bells, but don’t worry, we are on high alert once again for potential Oscar bait with Glenn Close’s powerhouse performance in the trailer for The Wife. Our spring movie preview of March & April (ep. 52) starts off this series, and May & June came and went with ep. 67.
