As we’ve been known to do, we enjoy taking some diversions from the prototypical Oscar coverage and enjoy some other genres / more blockbuster entertainment. We’ve reviewed the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Mission Impossible films, and now we’re reviewing the Conjuring / Warren Cinematic Universe. In this episode, we give you non-spoiler reviews of The Conjuring and Annabelle. Next week, we’ll conclude our preview of The Nun, the fifth film in this franchise with another episode covering the The Conjuring 2 and Annabelle: Creation. Of course, we’ll finish the series with a movie event pod reviewing The Nun. So by way of introduction, we had lots of fun discussing the imperative movie studios gave themselves going into this new age of filmmaking: the Cinematic Universe. Then we give you some basic information about paranormal investigator hall of famers, Ed & Lorraine Warren. Our non-spoiler reviews do get into some premise information, and we may give you the outlines or a few beats of later scenes. But for the most part, we remain spoiler free. We enjoy making fun of some of the genre conventions and worst scenes, and yet, even with the poorly reviewed Annabelle, we honestly had a ton of fun re-watching & reviewing these two films. We’ve previewed the month of September featuring a profile of The Nun in episode 93, and we’ve also covered the horror movie trailers for Halloween in DatA 2 and Mandy in DatA 3. In episodes 75 & 77, we gave the full Oscar Sprint Profile treatment to Toni Collette & the terrific new horror film, Hereditary.
