If you’re a fan of our retrospectives, if you enjoy these category overview pods, or if you just want a great podcast about film history with hosts who know their shit, then you need to subscribe to Academy Queens. Now the Mikes of Oscar and the Academy Queens have been friendly on film twitter for awhile. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have our squabbles, and as you know, our chief squabbler is Mike1, who loved last year’s Glenn Close performance from The Wife. The Academy Queens did not, favouring Olivia Colman & relishing it when she won. So of course, we needed to start here in a bit of an Oscar Race look back. Brandon & Joey state their case on why Colman over Close. They cite Oscar history, review the performances, recap the race, & reference some long standing Glenn / Meryl beef to complete our first look back segment. Then we dive into this year’s category & interview them on their feelings of Zellweger’s early lead, if it reminds them of any previous years, and who got snubbed from their top 5 lists. After our collaboration with the Academy Queens, Mike & I complete our traditional category overview format. We go through each of the 5 nominees and tell you why they’ll win AND why they’ll lose. So if you’re pulling for an actress who’s name doesn’t rhyme with L-wegger, then there’s hope! We give you that in this overview before ranking the noms the way we see em.’ Do make sure you subscribe to Academy Queens & start listening to all 3 seasons of their terrific Oscar pod. You can follow them at academy_queens on twitter, and if you’d be so kind, do please take a few moments to rate both our shows 5 stars on Apple Podcasts. Finally, and as always, we wanna hear your thoughts & your Best Actress rankings. We’re at MMandOscar on Twitter, and we are on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Gmail. You can subscribe / rate / review / like / share / & listen to us on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Google Play, Tune In, Spotify, and just about wherever you might listen. We’re Mike, Mike, & Oscar, and we’re making awards season year round, without the stuffiness. Thanks for listening.
