It’s step 1 and part 1 of our Way Too Early Oscar Predictions series, and it’s the necessary step before we can actually make those picks in our next episode. We NEVER stop. It’s all about Oscars 2020 now! This show has quickly become a highlight on our calendar. It’s a blast to look ahead at the calendar at large and locate all of the potential Oscar movies in the slate, and we broke the films down into 6 groups. First, we talked about the movies we got on our schedule over the next two months of March & April with Captain Marvel (next week’s first OSP / Movie Event) and March 22nd’s Us from Jordan Peele. Then we took a dive into the offerings from this winter’s Sundance Film Festival with most of the major players now owned by Amazon Prime, certainly envious of how Netflix emerged as a major player on red carpets this past season. Group 3 is the long anticipated, Long Time Coming’s like Scorsese’s The Irishman & Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The fourth group discusses all the films from recently nominated people from Greta Gerwig’s Little Women to Daniel Kaluuya’s buzzed about performance in Queen & Slim. Group 5 discusses the potential Oscar breakouts like Cynthia Erivo in Harriet and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out. Then we cannot help ourselves when we discuss Group 6, the Blockbusters. This past year had a popular film imperative. We wonder if next year could have some crossover hits amongst the potential nominees. MMO doesn’t stop. We’re a year round film preview, review, interview & appreciation pod, and this 100% scientifically accurate process of predicting next year’s Oscars began with this episode. Stay tuned for part 2 where we’ll reveal our selections. Then we’ll have another fun MMO Weekly episode for you Monday before we preview & review Captain Marvel next week, along with (we hope) another early 2019 movie review. “This is the business we’ve chosen.” As always, let us know what you think.
