What better narrative to begin our next year than with looking to Daniel, the prophet in exile? Here was a man who grew up with every facet of the Israelite culture under attack. And still he put his faith and trust in God even though he had the confidence of conquering king. Daniel never railed against, withdrew from, or assimilated the cultures of the Babylonians, Medes, or Persians. He engaged with his captors and became an integral part in the restoration of the Kingdom, culminating in the coming of the Son of Man.
