The Wonder Years: S6E2: Fishing

Happy Friday Wonderlings! Angela Bowen, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Anyone up for a fishing trip with the Arnold men? Things get rowdy as they tend to do when you put Wayne and Kevin together. You just know there’s gonna be a tussle. S6E2: Fishing, which aired on September 30, 1992. Jack learns some hard lessons about nostalgia this episode like you can't repeat the past, not to mention things get off to a rocky start when they get to the bait shop and Jack is told that the owner (the guy who the store is named after)passed away (in a boating accident of all things) and the place they are planning to go to that they go every three years is not open to the public any longer because the county closed off the access road and it's 8 miles by foot. Jack will not be deterred though, it's a shame he doesn't have Jeep or some other all terrain vehicle to get through that jungle. Kevin wants to be one of the big boys and drink a brew, but Jack is not providing alcohol to a minor. Wayne of course is 18, which was the legal drinking age in 1972 (I checked). So this whole not being able to drink a beer and being made fun of for catching a flat tire in the lake and not a fish has got Kevin on edge, so to retaliate he shits all over Jack's retirement dreams of having a cabin by the lake (not necessarily this lake, but a lake none the less), Kevin is a real dick in this episode. We get a nice montage of home movies of Jack and the boys camping when they're younger. Tents we're not flame retardant in those days as we find out. In this episode The Arnold men embark on their tri-annual three-day fishing trip. While on the trip, it quickly becomes evident that Kevin and Wayne have outgrown the whole camping experience. Join me next week for S6E3: Scenes From a Wedding, which aired on October 7, 1992. In this episode Kevin and his family attend the wedding of his dad's boss's daughter. At the reception, Kevin tries to impress a girl by drinking champagne, Wayne recognizes that the bride was a former date and Jack's boss angers him by flirting with Norma. What's in store next week, Kevin gets drunk, Jack's boss hits on and gets handsy with Norma, and Wayne previously banged the bride to be at of all things a wedding reception (so Wayne is not a virgin). Have a great weekend everyone!
