Please Stop Trying To End Gun Violence

There is little logic on either side of the debate on gun violence. The very expression, gun violence, betrays the emotional level of the discussion. If anything demonstrates the tendency to divide issues into sound bites the tendency to divide violence into discrete categories has to be illustrative of what has gone wrong with social discourse. Gun violence cannot be packaged into a political issue for ease of consumption and marketing. Indeed, it is not even violence that is the real problem or criminals themselves. The problem is much wider and more embedded in our societies to permit these kinds of comforting narratives. The package may be neat, but it is empty. Please Stop Trying To End Gun Violence creates a less pretty result than conventional narratives on crime, but it has something we can actually use, inside.
