Most Christians think they know what the story of the Rich Young Man is about, but we are not sure and perhaps a lot of us hope we have misunderstood what it is telling us. To think it is saying that people who will not sell what they have and give it to the poor put their physical property before a God who demands we not even put family in front of Him, is an unpleasant topic to dwell on. But things are not as bad as we think, or maybe worse. Because while the story is not precisely about making ourselves destitute, the fact is that it is far more easy to follow what Jesus wants us to do than we hoped. At least if obedience looked next to impossible we had a reason for disobeying him. But if obedience is as easy as this author suggests it is, our disobedience really is without excuse. For people who are not willing to obey God this many not be a production you will want to familiarize yourself with. Knowing you could obey God without suffering dire consequences while failing to do so may not be a situation you wish to find yourself in.
