The World of Prevention with Jeffrey Quamme

Published: Aug. 26, 2022, 2:17 p.m.

Jeff talks with Jeffrey Quamme. Jeffrey is the Executive Director of the Connecticut Certification Board, focusing on competency and ethical practice in prevention, treatment and recovery. He has been active in the field since the summer of 1988, slowly learning and ascending to his current position of leadership.

He is a national trainer, having spoken across the country on issues such as provider ethics, the therapeutic relationship, and clinical supervision. He also openly addresses the credibility problems of the SUD industry in an effort to initiate difficult conversations that can lead to improved client care. He sits on the planning committees of the AdCare New England Institute of Addiction Studies Summer School and the Utah Valley University Conference on Addiction.

In 2020, Jeff started a podcast on behalf of the CCB entitled Scope of Practice, which attempts to talk with experts in areas that affect the industry which are often not reaching those working on the front lines of the field. The podcast is not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom and talk about unpopular ideas in order to provide alternative views to listeners so they can make their own informed decisions on topics that matter. Guests have included researchers, educators, national subject matter experts, and even a Grand Slam tennis champion and former overall #2 NFL draft pick.

He has a significant history of both Major Depressive and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders that go back to sexual abuse and family-of-origin issues in his pre-teen years. After struggling in silence for many years, he sought treatment in his late 20’s and remains active in his recovery with an improved awareness and coping strategies to deal with the persistent negative symptoms of mental health disorders. He is proud to serve as a Stability Leader with The Stability Network, a worldwide group of individuals committed to putting a face on mental illness in order to elicit attitudinal change in the communities in which we live.
