Galatians 6:9 – Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. James 3:3-5 – When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. SERMON POINT #1 – WORDS HAVE POWER Proverbs 18:21 – The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who live it will eat its fruit. SERMON POINT #2 – MY WORDS CAN BE LIFE-GIVING OR LIFE-TAKING Proverbs 12:18 – The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 15:4 – The soothing tongue is the tree of life, but the perverse tongue crushes the spirit. SERMON POINT #3 – IF YOU CAN’T SAY SOMETHING GOOD … SKIP IT Ephesians 4:29 – Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. SERMON POINT #4 – IF YOU THINK SOMETHING GOOD … SAY IT Proverbs 16:24 – Gracious words are like honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
