John 3:16-17 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Sermon Point #1 – Why would God love someone like me? Job 42:5-6 – My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in the dust and ashes.” 1 Corinthians 15:9 – For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. Exodus 3:11 – But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go do Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Sermon Point #2 – God is love 1 John 4:8-10 – Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but the he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Sermon Point #3 – God’s love is unmerited Ephesians 2:8 – For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God Sermon Point #4 – We love because God first loved us 1 John 4:13-19 – This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us his Spirit. And we have then seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God live in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Matthew 1:21 – She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. Romans 5:6-8 – You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
