According to Merseyside-based charity Autism Together, autism community heroes take many forms.

A hero may have helped out in an emergency or stepped in when no-one else was prepared to, to help a family in distress. A hero may be a kind shopkeeper, a patient bus driver or a friendly swimming instructor.

\\n\\n\\n

A hero may have made a point of getting to know someone on the autism spectrum and become a friend. Their friendship may mean the world to that person.

Autism Together is calling for members of the public to nominate community heroes for its Autism Gold awards.

The Awards are part of the charity\\u2019s golden anniversary celebrations and winners will be announced at a gala ball at the Shankly hotel in Liverpool in November.
