The House of The Devil with special guest Matt Leslie

Published: April 21, 2020, 2 p.m.

I’m joined by writer, producer, and director Matt Leslie, he wrote and produced Summer of 84 (one of my favorites, go watch it) and has his upcoming directorial debut The Knocking currently in production. He chose to discuss one of his favorite sleeper hits, The House of The Devil. It was released in 2009 and is available to watch on Amazon Prime.

This film was written and directed by Ti West (V/H/S, The Innkeepers, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever). Starring Jocelin Donahue (Insidious: Chapter 2, Doctor Sleep), Tom Noonan (Manhunter, Damages), Greta Gerwig (writer of Ladybird, Little Women, actress in Arthur, Jackie, Isle of Dogs) and an appearance by Dee Wallace (E.T., Cujo, The Howling).

I won't lie, this wasn't one of my favorites, but I can appreciate the cinematography, it was very cool to see how they were able to make this film feel like it was shot in 1983.

I rarely drink while watching the films for this podcast, I need to be in control and make sure others don't go off topic. In this episode, neither one of us were drinking, just a normal conversation. With all of that being said, no drinking game for this week, unless you decide to make one up, but feel free to make yourself a Red Devil.

Red Devil (recipe by Boomette):

  • 1 1/2 oz Vodka
  • 1 1/2 oz Peach Snapps (Or Western Son Peach made with real peaches and no sugar added)
  • 1 1/2 oz Souther Comfort
  • 1 1/2 oz Gin
  • 2 oz Triple Sec
  • 2 oz Orange Juice
  • Grenadine
  1. Mix alcohol into an ice-filled cocktail shaker.
  2. Add the juice and grenadine, and shake.
