Paradoxically, with pervasive digitalisation the “materialisation of the digital” becomes the focal point. Overall we are witnessing a “second digital age” of architecture, which originates in the interconnection of digital design and fabrication and which, through the introduction of the robot, finds its contemporary expression and potential to thrive. It is now possible to regard computer programming and architectural construction as conditional upon each other, and to see their reciprocity as fundamental to architecture in the digital age. As a consequence, the digital becomes concrete and tangible. Hereby the robot is both symbol of and tool for a profound reformation of the discipline.
