What is a Backup?

A backup is a file or set of files that are created for the purpose of restoring data back to its original location and with its original information. Backups can be made for files, settings, applications, computers, smartphones, and other devices. If you have a backup of a file, computer, or smartphone, you have the ability to restore quickly and start using that file, computer, or smartphone if it's lost, damaged, or stolen.
