Copyright Explained

Copyright protects “original works of authorship” under the laws of the United States. The term means “right to copy” and the term has come to mean the rights granted to an author for an original creation. The law is based on the principle that the author of a work may reap the fruits of his or her intellectual creativity for a limited period.
