The idea that Australia is a country which allows all forms of free speech is not quite accurate. The reality is the legislation places tighter controls on speech than either the United States or Europe. Legislation is being considered which in the words of former secretary of the Department of Defence, Dennis Richardson, could turn police into "judge, jury and executioner".
