Unlike Africa, global mining companies once believed that Australia could never be a serious diamond producer. Ewen Tyler, described as the father of Australian diamond mining, begged to differ. His experience in Africa and his geological education in Western Australia, saw his determined efforts and business acumen pay off with the Argyle mine becoming the world's largest producer of coloured diamonds, 'pinks'.
