Martha Buit is a PhD researcher at Groningen Centre for European Financial Services Law of the University of Groningen, Netherlands. Her research focuses on lending-based crowdfunding, which has become an important, yet unregulated, alternative financing structure to provide consumer and SMEs with loans. In this talk, Catalin and Martha discuss the issues arising from creditworthiness assessment in peer to peer lending in the Netherlands. Are the regulatory requirements too restrictive and, thus, affecting competition? Are regulatory requirements for fin-tech actually act as a barrier that is detrimental to vulnerable consumers looking to access financial services outside the traditional financial services?
