Schrader-cast Continues with the Incredible Mishima and the Way-Better-Than-You-Think Light of Day

Published: June 12, 2023, 1 p.m.

Blaize joins Jason again for part three of their look at the films directed by the singular Paul Schrader. This time they look at the film generally considered Schrader's most ambitious film, Mishima, and one of his most forgotten films, Light of Day. Blaize and Jason discuss whether Schrader's ambitions outpace his abilities in Mishima, as well as discussing the fascinating way Schrader tells multiple stories all in one compressed narrative. And they agree that Light of Day, a generally forgotten film starring Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett as Ohio rockers with family issues, deserves to be dusted off the junk heap and reassessed as an intriguing, damning take on Reagan's America.

This is a long episode, but we get into some complex topics and we think the episode is worth the listen. Hope you do too.
