When was the last time you marched straight towards your fears? Last week? A month ago? Maybe you can’t even remember? If something is of interest to you, do you look at it from the perspective of what you COULD learn or do you see it from a pessimistic lens and consider all the worst case scenarios? Does change scare you? Do you resist it because of the unknown or does it excite you?

Today I want to talk about how Seeking Discomfort in our life actually leads to growth. By attacking the opportunities that scare us the most, we set ourselves up for the most amount of growth. Seeking discomfort is our ticket to growth & living a life without regret.

Special thanks to Yes Theory creators Matt Dajer, Ammar Kandil & Thomas Brag. Without their megaphone of preaching this concept over the years through their content, I don’t know if these two words would have resonated with me as much as it does today.

Four principles to seeking discomfort :

 • (1) Live Without Regrets : We must be able to live without regrets which means we have to chase after the things that interest us.
 • (2) Just Start : We must be willing to start. Planning and strategizing ahead of time is great but at some point we need to get the ball rolling and figure things out as we go.
 • (3) Winning Decision or Learning Opportunity : We must see a choice as either a winning decision or a learning opportunity. There is no such thing as failure when you have this perspective.
 • (4) Stop When You Lose Interest : It’s a balance of not only chasing after your interests and ideas but also being able to recognize when it’s time to stop and move onto something else.

Challenge for the listeners

 • Spend 10 minutes within the next 24hrs and create a list of ideas that you’ve been interested in pursuing and have yet done so
 • It doesn’t matter the order you write them but once you’ve completed the list, start attacking one item at a time
 • Don’t worry about the end result or the amount of work it’s going to take to accomplish it, just keep chipping away
