Roadmap to the Tapeless Universe

Whether you like it or not, if you're serious about creating top-quality work, the next camera you buy will most likely not use tape. All the professional manufacturers are putting their best efforts and technology into cameras that record onto solid-state memory. If you want to keep working on state-of-the-art projects with the best people, you'll be dragged into the tapeless universe. It's a whole new game, with new rules and new challenges. Why not get up to speed before your first tapeless project by attending this session? We will cover every aspect of the tapeless workflow, starting with the different types of media the cameras record to: memory cards, optical disks and hard drives. Media management will be our primary concern. How do you archive material when there is no master tape, when the original chip that was recorded onto has been wiped clean and re-used before you can even view the footage? We'll thoroughly explore the many advantages and several disadvantages of the tapeless environment: from quicker access to files to much larger storage requirements. After this session, you'll know the lay of the land and be able to decide whether to go tapeless or whether to drag your feet and hang on a bit longer.
