ICFRC: US China Relations

Tom Niblock provides a brief history of U.S. - China relations, discusses some important aspects of the current relationship, and offers a few insights about possible future trends. He touches on a wide range of issues, including economic, security, and human rights issues, and discusses how shared interests between our two countries can lead to greater cooperation. Tom currently serves as Third Secretary at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. He is a native Iowan, having grown up in Iowa City, Denison, and Nevada and graduated from the University of Iowa in 2007. During his senior year, he served as the University Honors Program liaison to the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council. After graduation, he earned a masters degree in international relations and public policy from Princeton Unversity and joined the Foreign Service in 2009. Tom has been the recipient of numerous awards, including The University of Iowa's Hancher-Finkbine Medallion and the State Department's Thomas R.
