Lisa Rose Weaver's interest in China began early, when she studied Chinese at UW-Madison and went on to live in China. Initially an English teacher, her interest in professional journalism was sparked by the Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing while working as a translator and production assistant for CBS News. She went on to spend more than a decade based in Asia, based mostly in China but also in Hong Kong and Indonesia, working for a number of news companies including CNN. Currently she lives in Iowa City with her husband Wenfang Tang, a professor in UI's Political Science Department, and herself teaches journalism at the Adler School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
