ICFRC: International Tobacco Industry

For years Dr. Christopher Squier has researched the medical and social footprint made by the tobacco industry internationally. He's been a proponent of education and change across the globe, and he talks about the impact tobacco cessation has had thus far and its continued role in the world arena. Dr. Squier is Director of Graduate Studies and a Professor of Oral Pathology in the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa. He currently directs the Global Health Studies Program at the University of Iowa. He has been actively involved at the local, national and international level in tobacco control and oral cancer prevention. He has been a member of the Iowa State Commission on Tobacco Use, Prevention and Control since 2003. Dr Squier has served on the Board of Directors of the Mid-West Division of the American Cancer Society for almost ten years and in 2007 he was awarded the St George Medal for outstanding contributions to controlling cancer by the American Cancer Society. Dr. Squier has received an honorary doctoral degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest for his work on oral cancer in Hungary and is an honorary member of the Hungarian Dental Association.
