The City of Iowa City is developing a Streetscape Master Plan for Riverside Drive in response to requests by area businesses, property owners and neighborhood residents.

The project area extends from the Highway 1/Highway 6 intersection to Myrtle Avenue, which is the area within the West Riverfront District of Riverfront Crossings. There are a number of businesses along Riverside Drive that provide services to the neighborhood and to the broader community. As new businesses and housing are developed along this corridor, there is interest in improving the safety and aesthetics along the street, especially for pedestrians, and in establishing a more cohesive identity for the area.

Area businesses, property owners, residents and the general public were all inivited to an open house and public input session in November. The open house provided an opportunity for the public to review and discuss concepts for improved public sidewalks, landscaping, street trees, lighting, signage, entranceway features and other amenities.
