b'Dan Rodriguez, Corporate Vice President and General Manager for the Network Platforms group at Intel, joins Chip Chat to update on Intel\'s strategy and solutions for transforming network infrastructure for 5G. \\n\\nIn this interview, Rodriguez and host Allyson Klein dig in to Intel\'s announcements from February 24th, 2020, which expanded Intel\'s unmatched portfolio of solutions for network infrastructure. Rodriguez highlights updated 2nd Generation Intel\\xae Xeon\\xae Scalable processors, the critical component fueling network transformation and the delivery of new services. The latest 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors deliver 36% more performance and 42% more performance per dollar compared to the prior generation [1]. \\n\\nRodriguez also shares excitement over Intel Atom\\xae P5900, a new 10nm System on a Chip (SoC) with the right mix of compute cores, connectivity, and acceleration to power 5G radio access network base stations well into the future. Intel Atom P5900 is already seeing significant interest from the industry and end customers and is expected to help Intel achieve a leading 40% market segment share for base station silicon by 2021, one year earlier than previously forecast. \\n\\nFinally, Rodriguez discusses two new complementary technologies: Intel structured ASIC codenamed "Diamond Mesa" and Intel Ethernet 700 Series Network Adapter XXV710-DA2T with Hardware-Enhanced Precision Time Protocol. Less complex than a true ASIC and less expensive and more power efficient than an FPGA, Diamond Mesa targets 50% more performance or 50% better power efficiency versus the previous generation. The new Intel Ethernet 700 Series is Intel\'s first 5G-optimized network adapter and enables accurate time synchronization across the network without the added complexity and expense of specialty timing hardware for 5G, industrial, and financial applications. \\n\\nFor more on Intel\'s unmatched solution portfolio for 5G infrastructure, please visit https://intel.com/network and follow Rodriguez on Twitter at https://twitter.com/danrod2000 \\n\\n[1] Updated 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors deliver 36% more performance and 42% more performance per dollar compared to the prior generation. Performance tests, such as SYSmark and MobileMark, are measured using specific computer systems, components, software, operations and functions. Any change to any of those factors may cause the results to vary. You should consult other information and performance tests to assist you in fully evaluating your contemplated purchases, including the performance of that product when combined with other products.
