Eduardo Suárez: Digital News Media and the Rise of Reader Revenue

Published: June 12, 2020, 8 a.m.

It’s no secret that news media organisations are in danger. Falling advertising revenues and an accelerated shift to digital platforms are rapidly reshaping the work of journalists across the globe. Today on Insiders we ask - how should organisations be tackling these problems in 2020 and beyond?

Joining us is Eduardo Suárez, an award-winning journalist and Head of Communications at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. Last year Eduardo published a report comparing case studies of news media organisations in the UK and his native Spain, in doing so highlighting the varying approaches to reader revenue models. We’ll be focusing on this report, touching on subscription best practices, the changing digital news landscape, and how COVID-19 will affect an already fragile industry.
