In 1897 H.G. Wells wrote the novel War of the Worlds. In 1938 Orson Welles created a radio drama based on the novel, and sent Americans into a panic when they believed it was a real news broadcast. In 1975 the ABC Television Network produced a TV movie dramatizing the making of the radio broadcast and the public reaction to it.
