Religion and Mental Health with Calvin Wayman

Published: Jan. 7, 2020, 8 a.m.

He is the author of Fish Our of Water, a mastermind facilitator, podcast host, and successful entrepreneur, but Calvin Wayman openly admits that it has not always been easy and even he struggles with mental health issues.

I reached out to Calvin after being so moved by some of his raw and vulnerable posts on social media about his mental health journey. He authentically shares with his audience both on social platforms and on his podcast, Curious with Calvin Wayman, about his mental health journey and even about the suicidal thoughts that he has struggled with.

Calvin openly shares with us about growing up in fundamental Mormonism and how leaving his religion as a grown man has impacted him on a very deep level. We dig into both religion’s impact on mental health and also its impact on personal relationships. Calvin shares with us about how his upbringing felt like an “invisible leash” and how he found the courage to tune into his own intuition and make decisions that were more authentic to him.

We also dig into the mental health struggles of an entrepreneur and why it is so important to share your journey with others and not be bound by the stigma around mental illness. Calvin even asks me some powerful questions about my own healing journey and what it looks like to not only forgive others but to forgive yourself.

This is a fantastic episode for those who may feel like they may have suppressed wounds from their past that are keeping them back from healing. Calvin shares very practical tips that anyone can learn from despite where they are at.
