Positive Mindset Affects Our Physical Health (Naomi Pelled)

Published: July 14, 2021, 10 a.m.

Today, my new friend Naomi shares with us the story of how she lost half her body weight. At her heaviest, she was nearly 340 pounds, but today, she weighs about 160. She is active and able to keep up with her five-year-old twin boys, something she could not do when they were two. After struggling with her weight for her entire life, dealing with thyroid issues, and a period of infertility, Naomi has come to a place where she feels healthy and whole.

Naomi said something to me that blew my mind. I mentioned that what we choose to put into our bodies and how we exercise will affect our mental health. She replied back to me saying, “and vice versa.” which is truly paramount and so true. When we feel emotionally low or having a “bad” day, we often mistreat our bodies due to our unfocused mindset. If the chemicals in our brain are not balanced, our bodies actually process foods differently. As strange as it sounds, if you’re having a bad day and eat some chocolate, you’re likely to gain more weight than you would if you ate that very same chocolate as a happy treat on a “good” day.

Naomi also shared her morning routine with me, starting at 4:30 each morning and she watches this gratitude practice with Tony Robbins. She then listens to and repeats 100 affirmations. She journals and reads before exercising for a half hour, plus a walk if her family is still asleep. After the kids get off to school, Naomi drinks 2 liters of water and takes her supplements. She doesn’t eat anything until some oatmeal or a smoothie at 11am. She makes sure to eat plenty of vegetables and protein and to drink lots of water, every day, with no excuses. Even during government imposed lock down due to Corona Virus restrictions, Naomi found a way to walk a 5k indoors. Each day starts with boosting her mental health and getting her in a positive mindset before she even tries to take care of her physical body or any other member of her family.
