What if the thing that you think is a weakness is actually a strength? What if many of the “disorders” that we place on people are actually just their own uniqueness and something they can use to their advantage? This week I had the honor of connecting with Cameron Herold, also known as the “CEO whisperer”, to talk about his journey in mental health and why he thinks you should embrace what sets you apart.
Cameron has had extreme success even at an early age. He is known for his high energy, best selling books, and his gift for being able to help companies double and even triple their revenue in a short period of time. However, Cameron had an unconventional upbringing. He was diagnosed at an early age with “mental disorders” and although at the time, it was seen as a weakness, he now believes that being different is what helped him become as successful as he is.
In today’s powerful interview, Cameron shares with us why he believes many of our differences that we see as “mental illnesses” are simply our own uniquenesses. He even believes they can be our gifts. He suggests that we stop telling kids they have “problems” and start seeing how the thing that sets them apart can actually be used productively. He also shares with us about how our children’s confidence is suffering when we are constantly focused on finding what is “wrong” with them.
He encourages us in this episode to not only educate ourselves on those who have made the history books and have “struggled” with “mental illness” but for us to celebrate what makes us unique and consider that there may be nothing innately wrong with us.
This was such an eye opening conversation and we would LOVE to hear what you think! Connect with us in our private Facebook group: Hope to Recharge. As always, together is better!
