b'Today on the 14th Sunday of Luke the Gospel reading comes to us from Luke 18:35-43. In this reading we hear about the miracle of Jesus giving sight to a blind beggar sitting by the roadside. Metropolitan Alexios shares with us that this man possessed two characteristics that we must apply to our lives if we want to live as Orthodox Christians. The blind man cries out to Our Lord, "Jesus, son of David have mercy on me!", thus proclaiming to the crowd and to us his faith in Jesus as The Messiah. He is rebuked by the crowd to be silent but he cries out all the more with persistence, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" Jesus heals the blind man telling him his faith has made him well and the blind man responds by following Jesus, glorifying God. We are reminded by Metropolitan Alexios that faith and perseverance are two key ingredients to following Jesus and living the Christian life.'
