In the 1840s a massive immigration of Germans arrived\\xa0when the Adelsverein (The Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas) organized at\\xa0Biebrich\\xa0on the Rhine near\\xa0Mainz. It assisted thousands in coming to\\xa0Central Texas\\xa0and establishing such settlements as\\xa0New Braunfels and\\xa0Fredericksburg.
