James Stewart did a 9 month run of this outstanding western adventure series in 1953-54. Competition from that new fangled thing called a "television" drew more people than the radio... and the fact that James Stewart was one of the most beloved and popular movie stars in Hollywood...and very much in demand... well those factors ended the series. This was a unique western in that the Six Shooter, Brett Ponsett, let the listening audience know what he was thinking. His quiet and gentle voice could be heard as thoughts ran through his mind as to how to deal with a variety of situations and people. This was NBC's last effort to keep listeners coming back to the radio by hiring a top notch Hollywood star who was also a World War II bomber pilot veteran for the lead role. Unfortunately, it did not work... but the 39 episodes are very much worth listening to... This show is stored in the Playlist "Westerns" on the Soundcloud.com originating Podcast - Heirloom Radio.
