Red Ryder was based on the comic strip "Red Ryder." It first aired on Feb. 3, 1942 on NBC Blue Network (later to become ABC)... broadcast Tues, Thurs, and Saturday each week. Sponsor was Langendorf Bread. Series ended in 1951. Because the series had a young audience, they toned down the violence in the series. Red was mostly a cowhand, but when stories asked for his help he became a deputy sheriff. He never killed his enemies, just shot the guns out of their hands! He had a girlfriend, Jane Bruce. His native American guide and general helper was Little Beaver,played by Tommy Cook,Frank Breseee, and Henry Blair... and more. Roland Rawhide Rollinson was played by Arthur Q O'Bryan. The Red Ryder Victory Club started in 1942 to encourage people in conservation practices that would help the WW II effort and directly boosted the radio show's popularity.
