Little Orphan Annie was on the radio 5 days a week at 5:45 pm.... and millions of children and some of their parents too... Listened to this show for 7 years. The kids drank a lot of Ovaltine to be able to send in proof of purchase labels and seals to get the many types of decoder devices, pins, rings, badges... and at the end of each show a code was given that would give a hint about the next show, but only if you had a decoder device to find out wat the code meant. It was quite a production... kids, dogs, adventure, music, mysteries, decoder pins, a Secret Society... and so popular during the years of the great depression, especially 1935-39. This is what so many children listened to every afternoon, just before supper. The movie "A Christmas Story" based on Jean Shepherd's recollection of Christmas as a child, included some great scenes involving Little Orphan Annie and her decoder ring. Little Orphan Annie has her own Playlist on this podcast.
