Robert Ripley was born in 1890. He became a newspaper cartoonist, then a movie, Network Radio and television personality. His "Believe It Or Not" panel appeared in 326 newspapers in 38 countries and translated into 17 languages. In 1930 he began his radio career the ebbed and flowed until he died on May 27, 1949. On this track you will hear three one-minute episodes of the 1942-44 series. These 1 min segments were aired during Gabriel Heatter's news commentary on the Mutual Radio Network. The news program only lasted about 2 years and the 1 min segments of "Believe it or Not" featured Robert Ripley himself telling interesting stories that he had researched and fact-checked. He spent 52 years of his life traveling the world gathering up many strange oddities. He put his collection into a display for the Chicago Worlds Far in 1933 and the attraction was a smash hit, attracting over 2 million paying guests.
