  • \\u201cWhen you\\u2019re an immigrant kid it\\u2019s about not just the education but what is the value of that education in terms of jobs and economy.\\u201d
  • \\u201cYou have to own face diversity.\\u201d
  • \\u201cThe biggest guidance which is very silent is my parents.\\u201d

  • \\u201cI was greeted by a sign that says, \\u2018All aliens follow this line. All residents follow that line.\\u2019\\xa0\\xa0 Alien? Am I an alien? That was my first encounter with being different or being labeled as something different.\\u201d
  • \\u201cI get asked all the time by my patients, \\u2018Wow you speak English so well, what\\u2019s your first language?\\u2019 and I am like, English.\\u201d
  • \\u201cI had to learn to modify my accent. I still have one but it\\u2019s not as pronounced because in school a lot of people couldn\\u2019t understand when I spoke.\\u201d
  • \\u201cThe first time I met with the Director of Rehab at that program she stopped and said while we were talking, \\u2018Wow, you\\u2019re more articulate then what I expected.\\u2019\\u201d
  • \\u201cI battled with who to sit and eat lunch with every lunch time.\\u201d
  • \\u201cWe try to be as passive aggressive as possible.\\u201d
  • \\u201cIn order for our profession to grow, people have to be aware that their not dealing with colleagues who are like them, who believe the same things that they believe. They are also not going to be treating patients who believe the same thing that they believe or live the same life that they live.\\u201d
  • \\u201cAs a profession we don\\u2019t do any justice in supporting people who are not like us.\\u201d
  • \\u201cA lot of things do not apply to African American patients that we try to encourage people to do.\\u201d

  • \\u201cI was in a sea of white faces.\\u201d
  • \\u201cI am used to being in white spaces. I am used to accommodating.\\u201d
  • \\u201cThe process of going through PT school where you\\u2019re the only one and then you have professors who do the oppression through denial, \\u2018Oh, I treat everyone the same. I don\\u2019t see color. Vagina, penis, no different.\\u2019 Trust me it\\u2019s not the same.\\u201d
  • \\u201cIf someone just got kicked out of their house because they\\u2019re transgender and live in a state that won\\u2019t protect them that pain isn\\u2019t going to go away. Evidence based medicine isn\\u2019t going to help that.\\u201d
  • \\u201cIt was so hard to finish that process when I felt that I had no one.\\u201d
  • \\u201cThere is a disease that we have called complicit.\\u201d
  • \\u201cMe disagreeing with you is not anger.\\u201d

  • \\u201cAs a minority, sometimes you have to massage your message a little bit because people can be sensitive.\\u201d
  • \\u201cThose adjectives that you just gave me about slavery that\\u2019s how I feel about PT at times.\\u201d
  • \\u201cI think holistic admission is going to be our saving grace.\\u201d
  • \\u201cWe are using the term inclusion as a way to put a Band-Aid on it.\\u201d
  • \\u201cSometimes we forget the stories.\\u201d
  • \\u201cAsk questions.\\u201d
