The system of incentives has reduced our focus on primary care and prevention and while we have seen a small uptick in the number of medical students entering these essential areas of practice it is not enough to turn the tide as we need more of this glue to pivot to a value-based healthcare system that aligns everyone’s incentives for the best outcomes and the best value for our healthcare spending.

Your better pill to swallow is to pivot your resources, focus and investment to the primary care providers in your system. Don’t wait for value-based care systems to be imposed but wrap your arms around these systems and adopt them as quickly as possible.
