Healthcare IT Procurement and Supply Chain

Published: Oct. 12, 2021, 1 p.m.

Before COVID-19, I think that many of us took for granted the supply chain and the ability to procure just about anything we wanted pretty easily.  Then, the pandemic hit and we realized that there's a lot more risk in the supply chain than we realize.  As we start to focus more on procurement and the supply chain, it turns out there's a lot of value that CIOs and healthcare organizations can get from a better focus on it.

To dive into this topic and understand some of the value that's available, I talked with Jeff Heenan-Jalil, CEO & Founder at GPO HEALTH.  This interview came as a suggestion from a CIO who was impressed with their work and it didn't disappoint.

We ask Heenan-Jalil about the role of the ERP in this and why it doesn't solve many of the procurement and supply chain problems.  He points out that the ERP is actually the cause of many of the problems.  Heenan-Jalil also shares where he often sees opportunities for healthcare organizations to save money in their procurement efforts.  Plus, he talks about the role of data and using AI and machine learning to optimize this process for a healthcare organization.  Finally, we ask him what a health IT leader should know about supply chain and procurement they may not fully understand.

If you want to find out some ways your healthcare organization needs to rethink your procurement and supply chain, you'll enjoy this interview.
