Achieving Fluid Telehealth: How to Create a Virtual Care Infrastructure

Published: March 12, 2021, 2 p.m.

There's no topic in healthcare that's more discussed right now than the shift to virtual care.  Trying to understand what a healthcare organization needs to do to thrive in this quickly shifting environment is challenging.  To help you get a better understanding of what the future of virtual care in healthcare will look like and what infrastructure will be needed to make it a reality, we hosted a discussion on the topic with this expert panel:

* George Mathew, Chief Medical Officer – North America, DXC Technology

* Atif Chaughtai, Senior Director, Healthcare Market Leader, Red Hat

* Marlon Harvey, Global Business Solution Architect, Healthcare , Cisco

* Stacy Hurt, Patient Consultant

The panel got really exciting as we started to talk about the use of AI in the future of telehealth.  No doubt we're not there yet, but it's something that is on the horizon and needs to be considered in a healthcare organization's virtual care plans since it may be the only way we truly scale up virtual care to every patient.

Plus, one panelist observed that fee for service was a "drug" that healthcare organizations are addicted to.  I'd never heard such an apt description of why it's so hard for healthcare organizations to leave fee for service for value based care.  It is like a drug that no one really wants to take, but it gives them what they want.
