April 21 marks five years since the artist\\u2019s death at his Paisley Park Studios in Minneapolis. Although that city was an integral part of Prince\\u2019s identity, he also had an affection for London, visiting often to play shows in both arenas and small clubs. In 1994 he opened his Sign o\\u2019 the Times shop in Camden.\\xa0
\\nBarney Hoskyns is editorial director of Rock's Backpages, the online library of music journalism, which also has its own podcast.\\xa0

Barney had the privilege of joining Prince\\u2019s touring party in the early \\u201880s and released the book Imp of the Perverse in 1988.\\xa0
\\nHe also had a somewhat frosty encounter with the artist many years later.
