On the 15th April 1989 the worst football tragedy in living memory traumatised all involved with the sport. The aftermath was the biggest outpouring of grief ever seen within the world of football. It was beyond comprehension. A football show piece had turned into an avoidable crush that claimed the lives of 96 Liverpool fans in Sheffield. From then the word Hillsborough would forever invoke thoughts of tragedy and death, but no one expected the depravity that followed. This week the families of the 96 have been vindicated in their longstanding belief that Liverpool fans were blameless. Whatever actions follow these revelations with be marked in history.
