In 1955 Jack was ten and living with his mother, who was raising him alone. She and Jack\\u2019s father adopted him when he was a tiny infant, which meant she was the only mother he knew. Jack\\u2019s mother and father got divorced when he was really young, so for the most part, she was also his only parent. One night, Jack\\u2019s mother died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack, leaving him not only in deep grief but unsure of where he would end up and who he would live with.
