A dinner demonstration
The popular approach to life is simple. Might makes right. The strong survive. The good are rewarded. Jesus promoted a way of life that is completely different, a way of life that is often unpopular. Thankfully, Jesus was interested in saving souls, not winning polls. This week Jesus warns us about self-glorification. As human beings, we are created to desire great things. Sadly, in our sinful state, we seek the wrong kinds of greatness and assume we must achieve it ourselves. Today Jesus reminds us that the greatness we desperately crave cannot be seized. Rather it must be received as a gift of his grace.
